We are thrilled to reveal a joint research initiative involving Select It, the University of Technology Sydney, the Spider Silk Research Lab, and Spider & Silk Supply. This project aims to develop an innovative silk-based nerve guidance conduit for the repair of peripheral nerves.
Existing treatments for nerve injuries, such as autologous grafts, face certain limitations. Our team is investigating the use of silk as a biomaterial that not only physically connects nerve gaps but also actively promotes regeneration.
Our design integrates silkworm fibroin to create a porous outer scaffold that prevents scarring and facilitates nutrient flow, alongside spider silk threads, which guide nerve cells and offer strength, elasticity, and biocompatibility to the product.
